Nigal's beginnings

We started our story at the end of 2019 in Ribadeo (Lugo), when two experienced data scientists and a group of software developers decided to combine their skills to support companies in their daily operations, giving them the power of their data through mathematical models that accelerate decision-making and optimize their processes.

But we wanted to go a step further… Aware that many companies have limited data available, we set ourselves a challenge: to democratize Artificial Intelligence by extracting as much insight as possible even in scenarios with scarce data. To achieve this we began developing mobile applications that collect information and compensate for the lack of historical records, complementing the data captured from sensors (IoT).

Something very important was still missing: the company's name and logo. We knew they had to reflect our philosophy. So, why Nigal?

Nigal is the acronym of words we strongly identify with: Nova Industria Galega. We believe that Machine Learning solutions and mathematical models have a lot to contribute to Industry 4.0 and that it's time for Galicia to become a benchmark.

But the name has even more history: Nigal (or the great lady) was a goddess in Mesopotamian mythology, protector of the city of Ur and credited with powers of divination through dreams. While the Mesopotamian civilization trusted the goddess's appearances in their dreams, at Nova Industria Galega we want our clients to make decisions based on data science. This parallel, together with the fact that our CEO is a woman, led us to choose NIGAL.

Nigal was a lunar goddess and was therefore represented with a crescent moon, an element that had to be present in our logo. We also incorporated a neural network, the icon of the best-known Artificial Intelligence model, to complete our corporate image. And that is how we wrote the first page of Nigal's story.
